An fascinating pair of historic banknotes issued by the Japanese Government for use in occupied Burma during the Second World War.
Following the Japanese invasion of Burma in 1942, occupation currency was introduced to replace the existing monetary system. Today these notes are commonly collected as Japanese Invasion Money (JIM) and provide a tangible connection to the economic and military history of the Asia-Pacific theatre during WWII.
This pair comprises a 5 Rupees note (BB prefix) and 10 Rupees note (BA prefix), both carrying the prominent inscription “THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT.”
Details: Japanese-occupied Burma; WWII occupation issue; denominations 5 and 10 Rupees; prefixes BB and BA; two original banknotes.
The notes are in circulated condition consistent with their age and history. Please refer to the photographs for the exact condition of the notes supplied.
